MENOPAUSE CLINICS

On this page you can find a list with some of the Clinics Specialised in the Menopause, Premature Ovarian Insufiency and Premature & Surgical Menopause in the UK. Some may be private or NHS clinics. But always remember you ask your GP to be referred to a NHS Menopause specialised clinic as you can’t book yourself in directly with them. You can also seek private help from a specialist in the event your GP is not enough and you want to seek for a second opinion.

Of course, there are differences between a private clinic and an NHS clinic, this doesn’t mean one is necessarily better than the other, but it’s good to simply choose whatever works better for you personally.

Private Clinic’s vs NHS. Why choose one or the other? From different surveys, it emerges that usually what drives people to go privately is the waiting time. Waiting lists can be very long and if you feel you need to talk to an expert NOW, well, this could be the only option. Or at least the fastest. The second reason people choose private clinics is that they can pick and choose the service that they receive. And finally the third reason is just the comfort factor such as a less crowded environment, having a private room, and no restriction on visiting times.

On the other hand, with a private clinic there is not the same range of treatments as there is with NHS. You might not find the same depth of experience for complex treatments in private hospitals as you would on the NHS.

Then there is the cost: Cost is the main reason why most people choose their treatment with the NHS; who can provide the treatments only after a referral from your GP. Even though the side effects can be quite severe, menopause is not a disease but it is a natural process, therefore getting to see a specialist is not easy. The waiting list can be very long and you may need to wait months to see a specialist. The Private healthcare on the other hand can be slightly better in terms of waiting list, but not necessarily. The cost is the real problem: they are very expensive as again, menopause is not covered by health insurance so not everyone can afford it.

It doesn’t matter really if you decide to go the private or NHS route, the important thing is that you seek the help that you need. You will then have a better journey through your menopause by choosing an option that works best for you
