I work with so many women facing different menopausal symptoms as I have myself but I have found tapping through them one at a time, breaks them down to the root of the problem so that our bodies and minds can let go.
Why tapping is unique is that it works with the body and mind simultaneously, so that it changes our physiology. I originally worked as a talking therapist and came to realise that issues needed to be released from the body and mind. I went on to work as a healer for 15 years and realised that the combination of the body mind work together was the key to letting go on every level. Also, this unique tool is free because once you have learnt it you can use it on yourself for every kind of issue, it is used in professional sport, with PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) in soldiers, phobias, serious illness, pain, anxiety attacks, just about everything you can think of.
I recently had a client who was having a difficult time as she was reaching the menopause and suffering from, heightened anxiety and was finding it difficult to shed weight. The weight was what we started tapping on because that was what she felt was the main problem. We use a suds scale in tapping which stands for Subjective Units of Disturbance, so that when you are starting to tap you pick the your most pressing issue and give it a number from 0-10 of how much it bothers you and her weight issue was a 10, so we began tapping on this. The set up phrase we used is “Even though I feel I am overweight, I deeply and completely love and accept myself”, this is known as the set up phrase and we say it three times while tapping on the karate chop point on the side of our hand.” We then tapped around the end points of the meridians on the body saying the problem phrase “I feel overweight” we do this 3 times around the eight tapping points and then check what number she was on, very quickly it had changed, she was down to a 3 on the “feeling overweight” and much more focused on the problem which was “anxiety”, she said that she would eat a lot of sugary snacks mid afternoon because that was when she was feeling low and anxious, so we tapped around those feelings, she realised the sugar was filling an emotional hole, so again we did 3 rounds of tapping on the emotional hole, which was more about her feelings of being stuck and not being able to move forward in her life, that was causing anxiety.
All negative emotions are stored in the body
During the tapping she realised that there were specific triggers to her anxiety, which she had always had but it had heightened massively since she had moved into peri-menopause and had become overwhelming. The tag line of EFT is “all negative emotions are stored in the body” as she started to let go of the emotions she moved towards emotional freedom. Gary Craig who invented EFT says that all addictions, however small they are, are really just “tranquillising anxiety”. I find often with the hormonal changes anxiety can come up, it’s like it has been let loose and tapping is a great way to clear it. You can also use the tapping on any of the physical symptoms you may be experiencing in menopause, such as hot flushes. The moment you feel the flush coming on start tapping, set up phrase “Even though I am having a hot flush, I deeply and completely accept myself”, it is amazing how quickly it works, I found just the acceptance changes the body physiology, so that I did not feel I was fighting the flush, it would come up but the heat was not nearly as intense.
So, we then tapped on the feeling of being stuck and the anxiety. She realised that by tapping she had let go of the problems and was no longer battling with her own subconscious but had moved into doing her own healing through self-acceptance. She continued the tapping at home for 10 minutes a day and because she had, had the realisation that the eating was filling the emotional hole she found she no longer had the cravings and her anxiety levels were now very low.
I find that many clients who may have unresolved issues find they come out in technicolour in the peri-menopause stage and they come up to be resolved and tapping is the perfect way to balance the body and mind at the same time. Once you realise how useful this tool is you will find you use it on everything. It is also a great tool to teach your kids.
