I’m very excited to announce my range of MegsMenopause products.
It is the first full menopause range that is dedicated to intimate skincare, easing the tough transition, making the process more comfortable for every woman. I’ve been working on these products for over two years now, so seeing them on the shelves in shops like Superdrug (and soon to be Boots and Tesco and online worldwide!) has been amazing. Since their launch on February 28 at Elan Café, I have had many questions about the range and the specific products. So here I’ll explain why I think these products are so essential to the menopause.
Firstly, I’m very proud to say that our bottles are made with 96% recyclable material. This was achieved by using the ethanol from the waste of sugarcane as opposed to using conventional HDPE and PET which traditionally contain fossil based raw materials like oil and natural gas. Having a range that is biodegradable and environmentally friendly is very important to me and is something I wanted to encourage other companies to do also. So I thought, why not lead by example?
Secondly, another factor I took into consideration when making this range, is keeping the products discreet. I have a house filled with teenagers, making privacy a luxury sometimes. I have many comments from you ladies as well, talking about how embarrassing it is going to your pharmacy and picking up a bottle of lube or intimate wash. The branding and the packaging of most other products are loud and flashy. I wanted to make a range that a woman can pick up and take to the till without having to blush. Something we can put on our nightstands and bathroom counters without raising any eyebrows or making people sniggers.
On the back of so many bottles I constantly read ‘synthetic rose.’ This always annoyed me, especially now when I am more conscious about what I put into my body and onto my skin. I don’t see why we simply can’t just use natural rose and not have to use harsh chemicals and perfumes. In my range, I picked each ingredient myself and made sure the products are ‘natural organic’. The ingredients are also completely vegan approved and have not been tested on animals. I have always been a strong advocate for animal rights, so having a range that reflected this was also a huge goal of mine. I’m also especially proud that these products have been made and manufactured solely in the UK.
MOTION LOTION: Intimate Lubricant (Water and Oil-Based)
Lubricant can be your best friend from when you first start having sex up until your current age. However, perimenopausal and menopausal women are more likely to suffer from vaginal dryness. This can cause discomfort and in some cases pain during intercourse. When we start the menopause and our oestrogen starts to decrease, the lining in our vaginas can become thin. This can make penetration feel tight and painful and can sometimes cause bleeding due to your vagina tearing. This is where lubricants come in handy. My lubricants are designed to help alleviate any uncomfortable dryness and unwanted friction during sex and masturbation. I have made an oil-based and a water-based lube depending on what you want to use it for. You can read my guide on which lubricants are right for you and your lifestyle here.
BLOSSOM LAVE: Intimate Wash
What you might not know is that our vaginas are actually self-cleaning. This means that they have a natural acidity which lays around 3.8 to 4.5 on the ph-scale. This fights off any unwanted bacteria and fungal infections. This means that using any harsh or perfumed soaps in that area can disrupt this process making things like yeast infections much more likely. These products can also dry out your vagina, not helping any of you who already suffer from vaginal dryness. My intimate wash has been uniquely formulated to gently cleanse the external vaginal area without causing irritation or dryness. It is mild enough not to interact with the natural ph-balance of our vaginas and does not contain any perfumes which could cause drying. Some of the ingredients include Marshmallow extract which has soothing properties, along with a subtle and delicate all-natural rose fragrance to keep your vagina clean and fresh.
BLOSSOM BALM: Intimate Skin Moisturiser
Much like lubricants, moisturisers are great at keeping the vagina hydrated and moisturised. However, while lubricants can offer temporary relief during penetration, a vaginal moisturiser can be used anytime and anywhere. Intimate moisturisers are more easily absorbed into our skin making it a better all-around companion to tackle vaginal dryness. You can use an intimate moisturiser after showers or baths, or even if you just need a top-up halfway through the day (much like a normal face moisturiser). My intimate skin moisturiser has been uniquely formulated to gently moisturise and care for the intimate skin areas, whilst reducing dryness and the feeling of discomfort. You can use inside your vagina as well as the external areas such as your labia and vulva.
ROSEY RAIN: Facial Cooling Spray
Hot Flushes are probably the most common symptom of the menopause (or at least the most well-known). To combat this I created my Rosey Rain cooling spray which should help when the hot flushes flare up. My cooling spray can also be used to boost the hydration in your face, refreshing you for the day. It’s infused with natural Rose Oil and Marshmallow extract, designed to soothe, cool and calm skin making it the perfect handbag-sized companion for a spritz on the go.
S.W.A.L.K Hyaluronic Acid Serum
Sealed with a Loving Kiss! my hyaluronic acid serum is a lightweight little booster which helps to target dry, dull and dehydrated skin leaving behind a healthier, youthful glow. Don’t be put off by the word acid, what it actually does is absorb into the lower layers of the skin, locking in moisture and restoring the skin’s plumpness to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. I made this as naturally we’re all getting a little older and dry skin seems to become more frequent. You can use as part of a normal morning and evening beauty routine by applying 3-4 drops to the face and neck before applying your regular moisturiser.
MENO BLEND: Vitamin, Mineral & Superfood Supplement
For me and my foggy brain, I hate taking loads of different little pills and vitamins. So I decided to make things easier for myself (and all of you) and combining all the vitamins and minerals we need during the menopause into a nice little powder. The MENO BLEND contains the perfect combination of essential vitamins and minerals to improve the body’s internal strength and health. There’s calcium which strengthens the bones, vitamin C which contributes to normal collagen formation of the skin and bones, complex B vitamins which help to reduce the look and feel of tiredness and fatigue and B6 vitamins which contribute to the regulation of hormonal activity.
