A Look Inside the MM Products

My range of MegsMenopause products are vegan, not tested on animals and all with eco-friendly packaging. I am sure some of you are wondering what are some of the ingredients and why they are in there, but mostly what good it does to your skin.

Starting with Rosey rain, which is used for its amazing cooling effect (and lets be honest, its amazing for this seasons heat waves and warm weather)

ALOE BARBADENSIS LEAF EXTRACT: In short, it’s Aloe Vera. This is a medicinal plant of desert origins. It is commonly used as a home-made remedy for burns and it is widely used in beauty and skin care products. From a botanic point of view, aloe is a leafy succulent. It’s a type of plant that has adapted to extreme desert conditions, by storing water in its leaves. In aloe’s case, the water is stored in the gel-like sap. You can use the sap topically directly from the leaf – it is enough to slit it open and then squeeze. Aloe vera shows anti-inflammatory properties that also make it suitable for the treatment of some skin conditions such as psoriasis and herpes outbreaks, and also minor skin irritations such as wind burn and razor burn. It is possible to use it as a preventive treatment, for example before shaving or going outside in the wind or sun; however, you cannot use it as a substitute for sunscreen. Aloe Vera has been chosen to be part of this formulation for all of the above but also because it contributes for the refreshing sensation that Rosey Rain has been designed for.

GLYCERIN: Glycerin is used as a lubricant and humectant in many personal care products, and as a cosmetic bonding agent for makeup, helping to keep everything together. Basically, glycerin attracts water to skin and in this way, it helps skin to feel softer and smoother. It is a sugar alcohol that can be synthesised or also obtained from natural sources, since it’s a natural component of all animal and vegetable fats and oils. However, it can also be synthesised from carbohydrate sources (for example cane or corn syrup sugar) and also from substances such as propylene.  Additionally, the synthetic form is chemically identical to naturally-occurring glycerin. Long-term studies have shown that the body handles synthetically derived glycerin exactly in the same way it handles naturally derived glycerin. It is used safely in some cosmetic and personal care products such as soaps, toothpaste, shaving cream, and skin and hair care products. After water, glycerin is the most frequently used cosmetic ingredient. Other uses that have been given to glycerin in cosmetic industry are in hair conditioning agent, oral care agent, skin conditioning agent and skin protectant. Of course, you need to be fresh when you are experiencing hot flushes, but your skin needs hydration as well especially during menopause.

ALTHEA OFFICINALIS ROOT EXTRACT: Also known as Marshmallow root, it’s a plant high in starch and mucilagenous polysaccharides which form a protective gel, along with flavonoids and anthocyanidins. Marshmallow root is rich in asparagine, pectin, starch, mineral salts, and vitamins (A, C, E and B complex), basically all good stuff. It forms a protective layer that, over the mucous membranes and skin, is able to effectively soothe irritation and relieve inflammation. The root of Marshmallow can also promote generation of tissue fluid and increase moisture in deficient skin conditions. Marshmallow is widely used in cosmetics for its soothing, moistening, and calming properties on the skin. To summarize, it provides effective soothing, anti-irritant and moisturizing properties and this is exactly the reason why I needed it to be on my cooling spray as we all need soothing our skin on the days where its suffering more. So Ladies, those are some of the active ingredients of my Rosey Rain spray, which I have to say its one of my favourites out of the whole range.
