Happy World Menopause Day!
Today is World Menopause Day. It means a lot to me. So every year, when the date comes around, I like to think about my vision for the future.
My vision, my dream, is a world where, if you’re going into menopause:
- You read The New Hot, not because it’s my book, but because it is full of experts in their field with lots of free advice. Plus, you get my story, as well as loads of other people’s experiences, and I hope that makes you feel you’re not alone.
- At the age of 45, every woman should receive a letter from the NHS with information regarding perimenopause, menopause, diabetes, dementia, osteoporosis, heart disease – basically all the risks that may come from lack of oestrogen.
I’ve always found it appalling that I was never told anything about menopause. That’s the reason I’m working with lots of experts to try and change things. I want women to get the information they need, from GPs, or before they even go to the doctor, from MegsMenopause.com, so they can go into an appointment fully armed, in order to get the best care possible, and make the best choices for their health, their mental wellbeing and their lifestyle.
Always remember that knowledge is power. And it’s easier if you have all the information at your fingertips – if you’re using the MegsMenopause app, you can log in if, say, you have foggy brain or aching joints, and find out what’s going on. You can also use the symptom tracker, so you have everything ready when you see your GP.
Always ask if there’s a menopause expert at your practice. It’s not your GP’s fault they don’t have the expertise – you have to remember they do just three hours of training on menopause. You need to go in fully armed.
I want everybody to get the care they need, and I want the knowledge to be out there. That’s my dream. Let’s do it together!
